The claim being examined

The Qur'an is a single text: the copy in Jakarta reads the same as the copy in Casablanca.

The Islamic position

Muslims hold that God promised to preserve it, and that the historical record matches the promise.

Analysis

The manuscript evidence — the Birmingham folios, the Sana'a upper text, Parisino-Petropolitanus — matches the standard consonantal text (the Arabic letters without the later dots and vowel marks). The scholarly debate is about the lower Sana'a text and the standardisation under Uthman, not about whether the text has stayed stable since. Be precise: the honest claim is that the Uthmanic text is early and stable, not that no variant reading of any kind exists. Overstating it is the fastest way to lose a well-read listener.

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا ٱلذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُۥ لَحَـٰفِظُونَ

innā naḥnu nazzalnā l-dhik'ra wa-innā lahu laḥāfiẓūna

Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed We will be its guardian.
