The claim being examined

The Qur'an is a single text: the copy in Jakarta reads the same as the copy in Casablanca.

The Islamic position

Muslims hold that God promised to preserve it, and that the historical record matches the promise.

Analysis

The manuscript evidence (the Birmingham folios, the Sana'a upper text, Codex Parisino-Petropolitanus) is consistent with the standard consonantal text. The scholarly debate concerns the lower Sana'a text and the standardisation process under Uthman, not the stability of the text since. Be precise: the honest claim is that the Uthmanic text is stable and early, not that no variant reading of any kind exists. Overstating this is the fastest way to lose an informed listener.

إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ

Indeed, We have sent down the Reminder, and indeed We will be its guardian.
