2 — How to test an argument

Handle with care. Do not treat confidence, credentials or emotion as a substitute for a true premise.

In short

1.Validity asks whether the conclusion follows.
2.Soundness also asks whether the premises are true.
3.Character matters, but cannot repair bad logic.

The claim being examined

A conclusion follows only when the reasoning is valid and the premises are true.

The Islamic position

The Qur'an condemns unsupported assertion and invites scrutiny; Muslims must hold their own arguments to the same standard.

Using logos, ethos and pathos, Dr. Ataie explains argument, credibility and human concern. His comparison of ethos with is an analogy: criticism examines transmission rigorously, not merely a speaker's charisma. Qur'an 2:111 states the evidential rule directly.
