4 — Can morality be objectively true without God?

Handle with care. Never say atheists cannot be good or assume every non-believer is a relativist.

If duties bind every person regardless of preference or power, moral reality needs an adequate foundation.

Atheists can act morally; the dispute is what ultimately grounds objective value and obligation.

Analysis

The argument moves from objective moral values and duties to a transcendent ground. It is contested: Erik Wielenberg defends secular moral realism, while Robert Adams grounds obligation in a perfectly good divine nature and commands. Present this question without claiming atheists lack compassion or moral knowledge.

From the Qur'an

إِنَّ اللَّهَ يَأْمُرُ بِالْعَدْلِ وَالْإِحْسَانِ وَإِيتَاءِ ذِي الْقُرْبَىٰ وَيَنْهَىٰ عَنِ الْفَحْشَاءِ وَالْمُنكَرِ وَالْبَغْيِ

Inna Allaha ya'muru bil-'adli wal-ihsani wa-ita'i dhi al-qurba wa-yanha 'anil-fahsha'i wal-munkari wal-baghy.

Indeed, Allah commands justice, excellence, and giving to relatives, and forbids immorality, wrongdoing, and oppression.
