The Age of Aisha (رضي الله عنها) at Marriage
Handle with care. Do not claim as fact that Aisha (RA) was definitely 18-19. That is a minority reconstruction, not consensus, and overstating it invites an easy correction.

- 2.Marriage age everywhere back then followed puberty, not a birthday — the same is true in the Bible and in Roman law.
- 3.Not one hostile source from his own time raises it as a scandal. The objection is a modern one.
The claim being examined
Bukhari 5133-5134 records Aisha (RA) saying the marriage was agreed when she was six and began when she was nine. People say this alone disqualifies the Prophet (SAW).
The Islamic position
The report is authentic and we do not hide it. In that world, and in every pre-modern society, marriage was tied to physical maturity rather than a number of years. And nobody at the time complained — not even the Meccans who attacked him over everything else.
Analysis
The main point is about time and place. Judging a seventh-century Arabian marriage by a twenty-first-century legal age is comparing two different worlds, not discovering a moral fact. Apply that same modern measure consistently and it rewrites how we read almost every figure of the ancient world, prophets of the Bible included. There is also a smaller view held by a few scholars — following old concerns critics such as Ya'qub al-Fasawi raised about Hisham ibn Urwa's later reports from Iraq — that Aisha (RA) was in her late teens, worked out from her sister Asma's age and the dating of Badr. That is a respectable minority reading inside Sunni scholarship. It is not the agreed position, so do not lean on it.

Sarah is described as ninety and Abraham as a hundred when Isaac is promised — the Bible dates events by circumstance, not by a fixed legal age. Pre-modern legal systems, Jewish and Roman alike, likewise tied marriage to physical maturity rather than a numeric age (Roman law: puberty, twelve for girls).
