The Jerusalem Council & Paul's Forced Nazarite Vow (Acts 21)
In short
- 1.Returning to Jerusalem, the elders confronted Paul over reports he taught Jews to **forsake Moses** (Acts 21:20-21).
- 2.To disprove it, **James ordered Paul** to purify himself and pay for a Torah **Nazarite vow** at the Temple (Acts 21:23-24).
- 3.The earliest disciples under James were **strict, Torah-observant Jews** who viewed Paul's anti-Law theology with suspicion.
The claim being examined
Paul was accepted without reservation by the Jerusalem apostles.
The Islamic position
Acts records the elders confronting Paul over rumours that he taught Jews to abandon Moses.
Analysis
Acts 21:20 notes "many thousands of Jews who have believed, all zealous for the law." Luke's own narrative — written to smooth over the rift — still preserves the tension: Paul must publicly perform Temple ritual to answer his own community.
Side by side

| Paul complies | Acts 21:26 | The next day Paul took the men and purified himself along with them. |
| What it shows | Jerusalem authority | The elders required public proof of Torah observance from Paul, in the Temple, at his own expense. |
