Being fair and balanced in assessing prophecies

Handle with care. Retire these entirely: the Gospel of Barnabas, the claim that *parakletos* was originally *periklytos*, and 'Muhammadim' in Song of Songs 5:16. Every one of them is refuted in seconds by anyone with a lexicon, and using them costs you the whole conversation.

In short

• 1.Apply the same standard to Christian readings of the Hebrew Bible and to Muslim readings — no double standard.
• 2.Cumulative fit matters more than any single verse: no one passage decides the question.
• 3.Concede openly where a reading is contested — it makes the remaining points credible.
• 4.The strongest Islamic case rests on Deuteronomy 18:18 and the Paraclete sayings, not on lexical curiosities.
• 5.Never build on a claim you cannot verify in a standard Hebrew or Greek text.

The claim being examined

Prophecy arguments are the easiest place for both sides to overreach, reading their own founder into any ambiguous text.

The Islamic position

Islam's own standard requires honesty: a prophecy argument is only as good as the reading it depends on.

Analysis

This card is about method, and it governs the whole prophecy discussion. Arguments resting on manuscript claims nobody can check, invented Greek words or forged gospels pass their weakness on to everything else you say. The disciplined approach — state the reading, state the reading against it, then explain why the Islamic one accounts for more of the evidence — is both more honest and, in practice, a good deal more persuasive.
