The five tests: how to judge any prophecy claim
Handle with care. Do not apply the tests only to other faiths. Invite them to apply the same five to Islam — that is the whole point, and refusing it destroys your credibility.

- 3.Clarity — specific, not vague enough to fit anything
- 4.Predictability — not what a shrewd observer of politics could have guessed anyway

The claim being examined
Every religion and every psychic claims foreknowledge. Without an agreed standard, "prophecy" becomes a word game where each side counts hits and ignores misses.
The Islamic position
Abu Zakariya proposes five neutral criteria that anyone — Muslim, Christian or atheist — can apply: accuracy, frequency, clarity, predictability and integrity. Apply them to everyone, including the Prophet Muhammad.
Analysis
The criteria are deliberately set before any candidate is examined, which is what makes the exercise honest rather than circular. A crucial distinction runs alongside them: a failed prophecy (a stated deadline that passed) counts against a claimant, whereas an unfulfilled prophecy (no deadline yet reached) is simply pending and proves nothing either way. Note also that accuracy alone is not enough — a perceptive analyst in 615 CE could have predicted many things; the test is whether the prediction cut against the visible trend.
