Critics assume the Islamic home is authoritarian: obedience upward, silence downward.
The Islamic position
The standard set by the Prophet, peace be upon him, is the opposite — he was the best to his family, helped in the house, and never struck a woman or a servant.
Analysis
The core reports are strong and should be memorised precisely. Sunan al-Tirmidhi 3895 (graded hasan sahih by al-Tirmidhi and accepted widely) records: the best of you are the best to their families, and I am the best of you to my family. Sahih al-Bukhari 676 records Aisha, may Allah be pleased with her, being asked what the Prophet, peace be upon him, did in his house, and replying that he was in the service of his family until the prayer time came. Sahih Muslim 2328 records her statement that he never struck anything with his hand, neither a woman nor a servant, except when fighting in the path of Allah. These reports matter in two directions. Outward, they answer the assumption that Islamic domestic authority means domination. Inward, they are a rebuke to Muslim men who cite Q 4:34 while ignoring the Prophetic practice that interprets it — a point that contemporary scholars make bluntly, and one this app should make too. Domestic abuse exists in Muslim households as it does everywhere; the correct response is to say so plainly, name it as sin, and point to the Prophetic standard rather than deny the reality.

وَجَعَلَ بَيْنَكُم مَّوَدَّةً وَرَحْمَةً
He placed between you affection and mercy.
وَعَاشِرُوهُنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ
Live with them in kindness.
From the Sunnah
The best of you are those who are best to their families, and I am the best of you to my family.
Aisha was asked what the Prophet, peace be upon him, used to do in his house. She said: he was in the service of his family, and when the prayer came, he went out to pray.
The Messenger of Allah, peace be upon him, never struck anything with his hand, neither a woman nor a servant, except when fighting in the path of Allah.
