The stone that used to greet him
Handle with care. Other versions of trees and stones greeting him circulate with weaker chains. Cite the Sahih Muslim wording and nothing more.
In short
- 1.He said: I know a stone in Mecca that used to greet me before I was sent — I know it even now.
- 2.It is narrated in Sahih Muslim, graded sahih.
- 3.Notice how plain the wording is. There is no crowd, no drama and no elaboration.
- 4.Use it as colour after the stronger, publicly witnessed signs — not as your lead.
The claim being examined
The Prophet said that a stone in Mecca used to greet him before he was given prophethood.
The Islamic position
It is a short, unembellished statement in Sahih Muslim, and it is best used as a quiet detail rather than a headline.
Analysis
Recorded by Muslim in the Book of Virtues from Jabir ibn Samurah. Later collections carry related reports of trees and stones greeting him during the Meccan period; several of those additional reports are weaker and should not be cited without their grading. The Muslim narration is the one to rely on.
From the Sunnah
The Prophet said: I know a stone in Mecca which used to greet me before I was sent as a prophet. I know it even now.
