Speaking honestly about a language you don't read
Handle with care. Do not invent Arabic terms, transliterations or grammatical claims. If you are unsure of a word, leave it out.
In short
- 1.You may say: this is why Arabic speakers found it overwhelming.
- 2.You may not say: read this English translation and you'll see the miracle.
- 3.If they ask for detail you can't give, say so and offer to find someone who can.
- 4.Never make Arabic a condition of guidance — it is not.
The claim being examined
Most people doing dawah do not read classical Arabic, and most people they speak to do not either.
The Islamic position
The honest position is to describe the argument, not to perform it — and to move to evidence both of you can weigh.
Analysis
This card exists because the language argument is the easiest place in dawah to overreach. Claims about Arabic style cannot be demonstrated through translation; a listener who studies linguistics will notice immediately. The credible move is to present the argument as reported and historical (the challenge, the reaction of the Quraysh), flag the limits, and rank it below evidence the listener can independently check.

وَلَوْ جَعَلْنَـٰهُ قُرْءَانًا أَعْجَمِيًّۭا لَّقَالُوا۟ لَوْلَا فُصِّلَتْ ءَايَـٰتُهُۥٓ ۖ ءَا۬عْجَمِىٌّۭ وَعَرَبِىٌّۭ ۗ قُلْ هُوَ لِلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ هُدًۭى وَشِفَآءٌۭ ۖ وَٱلَّذِينَ لَا يُؤْمِنُونَ فِىٓ ءَاذَانِهِمْ وَقْرٌۭ وَهُوَ عَلَيْهِمْ عَمًى ۚ أُو۟لَـٰٓئِكَ يُنَادَوْنَ مِن مَّكَانٍۭ بَعِيدٍۢ
walaw jaʿalnāhu qur'ānan aʿjamiyyan laqālū lawlā fuṣṣilat āyātuhu āʿ'jamiyyun waʿarabiyyun qul huwa lilladhīna āmanū hudan washifāon wa-alladhīna lā yu'minūna fī ādhānihim waqrun wahuwa ʿalayhim ʿaman ulāika yunādawna min makānin baʿīdin
Had We made it a Qur'an in a foreign tongue, they would have said: why are its verses not made clear?
