Knowing when to stop

Handle with care. Do not keep going after someone has clearly finished. Pressure undoes everything the conversation built.

1.Pick one sign and tell it properly. Three half-told stories are worse than one told well.
2.Watch for the moment they stop asking questions. That is when you move on or stop.
3.Signs are context for the man, not the argument for Islam. The argument is God's oneness.

5.End warmly. Give them something to take away and leave the door open.

The claim being examined

The most common mistake with this material is using too much of it. Miracle stories persuade almost no one on their own.

The Islamic position

Use one, well told, then move to God's oneness and the invitation. Leave the rest.

Analysis

Q 88:21-22 and Q 2:272 restrict the caller's role to conveying, and Q 28:56 states that guidance is not in the Prophet's (SAW) own hands. Practically, miracle reports depend on accepting the transmission of the reports, which a person outside the tradition has no prior reason to grant; they therefore function as supporting context rather than as an entry argument. The recommended order places and the person's own moral and existential questions first.

From the Qur'an

فَذَكِّرْ إِنَّمَا أَنتَ مُذَكِّرٌ لَّسْتَ عَلَيْهِم بِمُصَيْطِرٍ

Fa-dhakkir innama anta mudhakkir. Lasta 'alayhim bi-musaytir

So remind — you are only a reminder. You are not over them a controller.

إِنَّكَ لَا تَهْدِي مَنْ أَحْبَبْتَ وَلَٰكِنَّ اللَّهَ يَهْدِي مَن يَشَاءُ

Innaka la tahdi man ahbabta wa lakinna Allaha yahdi man yasha'

You do not guide whom you love, but God guides whom He wills.
