R — Why the Qur'an is that revelation
Handle with care. Do not claim the Qur'an ‘predicted the Big Bang’ or ‘contains modern embryology’. Overclaiming here is the single most common way these conversations are lost.
In short
- 1.**Preservation:** memorised by the Companions, taught teacher to student in an unbroken chain to today — Q 15:9 promises exactly that.
- 2.**Cosmology:** “the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed We are its expander” (Q 51:47) — expansion was established in 1929.
- 3.**Origin of life:** “We made every living thing from water” (Q 21:30) — the first thing we look for on other planets.
- 4.**Mountains as stakes:** Q 78:6–7 describes deep roots beneath them.
The claim being examined
Anyone can write a book and claim it came from God. So a genuine revelation should carry something a seventh-century man could not have supplied.
The Islamic position
The Qur'an's preservation, and statements about the natural world that no one at the time could verify, are offered as evidence of its source.
Analysis
Present these as the manual does: as reasons to take the claim seriously, not as knock-down scientific proofs. Each has a stronger and a weaker reading, and a listener with a science background will spot an overclaim instantly. Preservation is the most defensible of the four and the least often used — it can be argued from manuscript and transmission evidence rather than interpretation. Lead with it. If someone challenges the science verses, concede the interpretive question honestly and return to preservation and to the literary challenge.

Qur'an 15:9
إِنَّا نَحْنُ نَزَّلْنَا الذِّكْرَ وَإِنَّا لَهُ لَحَافِظُونَ
Indeed, it is We who sent down the Qur'an, and indeed, We will be its guardian.
Qur'an 51:47
وَالسَّمَاءَ بَنَيْنَاهَا بِأَيْدٍ وَإِنَّا لَمُوسِعُونَ
And the heaven We constructed with strength, and indeed, We are its expander.
Qur'an 21:30
وَجَعَلْنَا مِنَ الْمَاءِ كُلَّ شَيْءٍ حَيٍّ ۖ أَفَلَا يُؤْمِنُونَ
And We made from water every living thing. Then will they not believe?
Qur'an 78:6–7
أَلَمْ نَجْعَلِ الْأَرْضَ مِهَادًا وَالْجِبَالَ أَوْتَادًا
Have We not made the earth a resting place, and the mountains as stakes?
