The transmission of the Qur'an: memorisation first
Handle with care. Do not claim there is 'not a single variant' in the Qur'an's history. The exist, the ahruf are documented in Bukhari, and Muslims have never hidden this. Claim what is true and defensible: one consonantal archetype, mass transmission, no doctrinal divergence.

- 5.Recitation is a public, daily, communal act — corruption would have to occur simultaneously in thousands of memories.
The claim being examined
Critics respond that the Qur'an is a text like any other and faces the same transmission problems.
The Islamic position
Islam holds that the Qur'an's primary carrier was never the page but the memory of a mass community, with the written text serving as a check on it.
Analysis
The contrast is between a text kept alive by copying and a text kept alive by huge numbers of people memorising it at once, with the written copy used to check. The Uthmanic standardisation did not suppress the text; it fixed one consonantal skeleton (the Arabic letters, before the later dots and vowel marks). Modern manuscript study — Marijn van Putten's work on the Uthmanic archetype, and the Sana'a palimpsest studies of Sadeghi and Bergmann — supports the conclusion that the surviving Qur'anic manuscripts all descend from a single early written copy.
From the Qur'an
وَلَقَدْ يَسَّرْنَا ٱلْقُرْءَانَ لِلذِّكْرِ فَهَلْ مِن مُّدَّكِرٍۢ
walaqad yassarnā l-qur'āna lildhik'ri fahal min muddakirin
And We have certainly made the Qur'an easy for remembrance, so is there any who will remember?
إِنَّ عَلَيْنَا جَمْعَهُۥ وَقُرْءَانَهُۥ
inna ʿalaynā jamʿahu waqur'ānahu
Indeed, upon Us is its collection and its recitation.
From the Sunnah
Uthman ordered Zayd ibn Thabit and others to write out copies of the Qur'an, saying: If you differ with Zayd on anything of the Qur'an, write it in the dialect of Quraysh, for it was revealed in their tongue.
Gabriel used to review the Qur'an with the Prophet once every year, and he reviewed it twice in the year of his death.
