The claim being examined
These topics are often used to attack Christianity, when a traditional Christian usually shares the diagnosis.
The Islamic position
On family, modesty, life, sobriety and usury a practising Christian is an ally in the diagnosis, and the difference is over the cure.
Analysis
The strategic point is that the modern-world material is not primarily a polemic against Christianity but a shared complaint about secular liberalism, and treating a practising Christian as an opponent here wastes an ally and is discourteous. Common ground is real: the biblical prohibitions on usury (Exodus 22:25, Deuteronomy 23:19, Psalm 15:5), on drunkenness (Ephesians 5:18, Proverbs 20:1), on lust (Matthew 5:28), and the historic Christian teaching on marriage and family. The divergence to name gently is historical rather than doctrinal in origin: many denominations have revised positions on contraception, divorce, sexuality and the ordination of women over the last century, and Anglican and mainline Protestant bodies have documented that process in their own synods, while Roman Catholic and Orthodox teaching has held on much of it. Q 5:82 notes nearness in affection to those who say they are Christians. The argument, put respectfully, is that Islam retained a law where Christianity relied on grace and conscience, and that a religion without a preserved legal framework is more exposed to the surrounding culture. Do not mock decline, do not celebrate empty churches, and do not use this card to score points against a person who is trying to hold the line.
