GORAP — The Basic Dawah Conversation · O — Oneness
O — The Creator is uncreated, unlike creation, and not within it
Handle with care. Do not answer ‘God just is’ and stop there. That sounds like special pleading; the regress argument is what makes it reasonable.
In short
- 1.**An infinite chain creates nothing.** Every creator waiting on a prior creator means the work never starts.
- 2.**The stalled car.** You will only push if your neighbour pushes, who will only push if his neighbour pushes, forever — the car never moves.
- 3.**The maker is not the made.** You build a chair; you do not become the chair.
- 4.**So the Creator is uncreated,** self-sufficient, and unlike anything He made.
The claim being examined
The obvious follow-up is who created God. If the answer is another creator, the question never ends and nothing ever gets created.
The Islamic position
The chain must terminate in something uncreated. And a creator who became part of His creation would only be more creation — needing a creator in turn.
Analysis
This addresses the classic ‘who made God’ objection by showing that it misunderstands the argument. The premise was never ‘everything has a cause’ but ‘everything that begins has a cause’. An uncaused terminus is not a special exemption for God; it is what the impossibility of an infinite regress of dependent causes requires. The manual's neighbour-and-car illustration is a street-level version of the essentially ordered causal series in classical theism.
From the Qur'an
Qur'an 112:1–4
Say: He is Allah, One. Allah, the Self-Sufficient. He begets not, nor was He begotten. And there is none comparable to Him.
Qur'an 42:11
لَيْسَ كَمِثْلِهِ شَيْءٌ ۖ وَهُوَ السَّمِيعُ الْبَصِيرُ
There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.
