GORAP — The Basic Dawah Conversation · Dawah in Action
Dawah in action — the pre-conversation checklist
Handle with care. Do not go out alone in unfamiliar places, and follow local rules on street activity. Being a good neighbour is part of the message.
In short
- 1.**Practise on someone safe first.** A friend or a family member, before a stranger.
- 2.**Check the intention.** This is for Allah, not for winning an argument or being seen.
- 3.**Know the route.** G, O, R, A, P in order, and where you will go if they push back.
- 4.**Go with someone,** at a regular time, and follow up on anyone who gave you their number.
- 5.**Keep learning.** The GORAP is the skeleton; the rest of this app is the meat on it.
The claim being examined
A framework you never use is a framework you do not have. The manual closes by making dawah a habit rather than an event.
The Islamic position
Practise the GORAP on family and friends first, keep the intention sincere, and go out regularly with people who will keep you consistent.
Analysis
The manual explicitly describes itself as a skeleton requiring further study, which is the honest framing: the GORAP controls the shape of a conversation, but depth on any given objection has to come from elsewhere. In this app, the Defence, Comparative Theology and Book Study sections are exactly that further study — the GORAP tells you where you are, and those sections tell you what to say when a stage is challenged in detail.
From the Qur'an
Qur'an 3:104
And let there be arising from you a nation inviting to all that is good, enjoining what is right and forbidding what is wrong.
Qur'an 41:33
وَمَنْ أَحْسَنُ قَوْلًا مِّمَّن دَعَا إِلَى اللَّهِ وَعَمِلَ صَالِحًا
And who is better in speech than one who invites to Allah and does righteousness.
