The Paraclete Sayings (John 14-16)

The claim being examined
Christians hold that the Helper Jesus (PBUH) promises in his farewell talk (John 14-16) can only mean the Holy Spirit — not a person who walks the earth.
The Islamic position
Muslims point out that the language used is strikingly personal. This Helper hears, speaks, is sent, and does not speak on his own authority — which is exactly how the Qur'an describes a messenger delivering revelation.
Analysis
The Greek word parakletos means someone called to your side to help or speak up for you. Look at what John 16:13 says this figure does: he will not speak on his own authority, he will say what he hears, and he will tell you things that are to come. That is passing on a message, and foretelling — a messenger's job description. John 16:7 adds something odd: he cannot come until Jesus (PBUH) goes. Yet earlier in the same Gospel the Holy Spirit is already present and working. Muslim scholars from Ibn Ishaq (PBUH) onwards also noticed a near-identical Greek word, periklytos, meaning "praised one" — which matches the meaning of the name Ahmad in Surah 61:6. Be straight about this: no surviving Greek manuscript actually has that spelling. Say so plainly and rest your case on the description instead. Christians read all of it as the Holy Spirit. The point you are making is narrower: the words the text itself uses describe a someone, not a something.

وَمُبَشِّرًۢا بِرَسُولٍۢ يَأْتِى مِنۢ بَعْدِى ٱسْمُهُۥٓ أَحْمَدُ ۖ
wamubashiran birasūlin yatī min baʿdī us'muhu aḥmadu
And bringing good tidings of a messenger to come after me, whose name is Ahmad.
وَمَا يَنطِقُ عَنِ ٱلْهَوَىٰٓ إِنْ هُوَ إِلَّا وَحْىٌۭ يُوحَىٰ
wamā yanṭiqu ʿani l-hawā in huwa illā waḥyun yūḥā
Nor does he speak from his own inclination. It is not but a revelation revealed.
